What is UroLift?
UroLift is a minimally-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment for men with enlarged prostates. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition in which the prostate enlarges to the point that urine flow is blocked, resulting in painful urinary symptoms. Urine passes through the center of the prostate, which is located just above the bladder. As the prostate gland enlarges, it can block the flow of urine out of the bladder. UroLift presents a one-time solution without the need for surgery or constant medication. The procedure can relieve the symptoms associated with BPH so that you can get back to your life and resume your daily activities.

Which symptoms can UroLift treat?
Treatments can improve the following symptoms:
- Frequent, urgent needs to urinate
- A weak urine stream that may also stop and start
- Difficulty starting urination
- An inability to completely empty the bladder
- Increased frequency of urination at night
- Dribbling at the end of urination
Additionally, BPH medications can make a person feel foggy and cause sexual dysfunction. UroLift is a great alternative if you want to avoid those side effects.
How does UroLift work?
The UroLift System is the only BPH treatment that does not require any cutting, heating or removal of the prostate tissue. Instead, this revolutionary treatment lifts and holds the enlarged prostate tissue so that it no longer blocks the urethra. The system consists of a delivery device and tiny permanent implants, smaller than a staple. The UroLift Delivery Device is placed through the obstructed urethra. Small implants are then placed to lift or hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way. We use a small needle to deliver an average of 4-6 implants into the prostate. The delivery device is then removed, leaving an open urethra that provides symptom relief.
Are the implants permanent?
Yes, the implants are intended to be permanent. The implant is made up of standard surgical implantable materials (nitinol, stainless steel and suture) used in all other types of general surgery. If necessary, we can remove the implants at any point. They will not affect your ability to get an MRI in the future, nor will they set off any metal detectors.
What can I expect from the results and recovery?
After treatment, you will be able to go home the same day without a catheter over 95% of the time. The downtime is minimal and many patients experience symptom relief after a couple of weeks. You may experience some urinary discomfort and side effects during the recovery period, but they usually resolve within 2 weeks. Treatments will not affect sexual function.
